While the countdown to Christmas is less than two weeks, there’s still time to create another beautiful bauble for the tree if you act fast! Walt Wager’s “Holiday Sphere Ornament” is a stunning example of delicate and precise woodturning, and you can read each step of the turning process in this month’s AAW feature article. His isn’t a radically new design, but these classic “finial” style ornaments are always dazzlers. Making them will develop your skills in hollow-turning a very small form, plus spindle-turning its delightfully long “tail.” Granted, there’s a chance this level of precision may escape you on the first or second try, but your investment in materials will be very small. And even if your sphere isn’t perfect, or that finial isn’t as long as you might like it to be in the end, it will delight all who see it hanging from a branch this December and many more Decembers to come.
Happy holidays to you and yours!
